Mendoza has historically remained Argentina’s largest and most important winemaking region, accounting for more than two-thirds of the country’s total production. The Uco Valley southeast of Mendoza city is an important sub-region here, located at the foot of the Andes 3280m-5750m high mountains. This valley encompasses the important winemaking districts of Tupungato, San Carlos and Tunuyán. Here, red wines are mainly made from Malbec, Merlot, Tempranillo and Pinot Noir; white wine from Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Maipú, Luján de Cuyo DOC, San Rafael DOC and Agrelo, the wine-making districts south of Mendoza city famous for Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Especially in San Rafael San Rafael is especially suitable for the Chenin Blanc grape variety.
