Burgundy, France
The Burgundy wine region is a fifth the size of Bordeaux, and produces correspondingly more expensive wines. Burgundy bottle has rounded sides, the Bordeaux bottle has straight: Burgundy appeals to the senses, Bordeaux to the intellect. The main appellation of the region is plain and simple: red and white, Bourgogne Rouge or Bourgogne Blanc. Climbing up the hierarchy are district appellations such as Chablis, for white wines, Côte de Beaune for reds, and so on. Rising in quality while the area of the appellation gets smaller are village appellations, including Pommard and Nuits-St-Georges, among others. In these villages, certain superior vineyards are designated premier cru — and you will find the name of the vineyard on the label. At the top of the quality, heap are the single-vineyard appellations, the grand crus. Corton, Chambertin are all examples, with Clos de Vougeot being perhaps the most famous.
Russian River Valley, the USA
The Russian River Valley is the neighbor of Lynmar, Swan, La Crema and Sonoma-Cutrerconsidered. Russian River Valley is also called “Little Burgundy”. Its climate is similar to Burgundy, France and is considered a top region for producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Napa Valley, The USA
Located in the North Coast Region of California, Napa is one of the most exclusive wine areas in the country despite the fact that it accounts for a mere 4% of California’s total wine production. Chardonnay is one of the two main white varieties that flourish in Napa and have gained international recognition over the past 30 years. In fact, in 1976 California Chardonnay topped many of the Grand Cru Burgundy whites for first place in the now legendary Paris Tasting, putting Napa on the worldwide wine map. Puglia
Known more for red wines made from indigenous grapes, Puglia Chardonnay history dates back to the 1990s. According to Cantele wines, it was Augusto Cantele who rightly thought the grape might do well in the region’s limestone soils. These wines are affordably priced, and carry bright, fresh, often tropical fruit notes. Though they may boast a creamy texture, brisk acidity makes them lively and fun to drink.
